In the underwhelming main event of UFC Sao Paulo Jan Blachowicz took the split decision victory against Ronaldo Souza. the fighters went five rounds with not much action and some pretty drawn on clinches with both fighters looking for a take down making it hard to say if either were being the aggressor throughout the fight. Both Fighters have massive power behind their punches probably causing both to be a little more on edge and cautious about getting to comfortable throwing hands with each other knowing that the wrong punch at the right time would end the fight for either athlete. Ronaldo showed a little more control in the octagon continually pushing Blachowicz against the fence looking for that takedown opportunity putting the pressure his opponent. In the fourth round we see Blachowic throwing some frantic punches trying to turn the fight in his favor and Souza still pushing for that takedown but was ultimately unsuccessful on each attempt causing the long clinches. As fans we expect the fight to pick up in the later rounds especially if neither fighter is clearly up on the score cards and we finally see a bit of action in the fifth round of the bout as Blochowics lands a well timed uppercut as Souza went in for another take down attempt knocking him off balance as Blochowic hit him with a flurry of punches and knocking him down and turning the fate of the fight in his favor.
At the end of the fight we see Jan Blachowicz call out the light heavyweight champ Jon Jones saying “Jon, lets do this. Give me the title shot because I don’t have time, Maybe three more years and I go to retire. So, now or never.” Now I might be a little biased because Jones is one of my favorite fighters, but after a fight like that it makes me wonder if Blachowicz has what it takes to take on the pound for pound champ Jon Jones. Let me know what you guys think about that matchup and if Blachowicz could end up holding the light heavyweight title.
